Check the reason, date and type of exclusion and the information about making representations. Preserve the incident records and any account your child gives. Ask how education will be provided while the decision is reviewed.
Prepare for the board stage
In England, the governing board considers a permanent exclusion. Ask for the evidence in advance and explain any factual dispute, unmet need, relevant adjustment or concern about the procedure. The process and timing are set by the applicable guidance.
If the exclusion is upheld
A parent may ask for an independent review. Check the decision letter promptly for the deadline and instructions. A discrimination claim, where relevant, is a separate route with its own time limit.
